Welcome to the North Wales Area website. This site is still being developed by volunteers, we hope to have it fully working soon and would like to get a Welsh version up and running as soon as possible. If you are able to help with translating into Welsh please get in touch.

The Ramblers help local people enjoy walking and protect the places we all love to walk. Our Areas helps look after paths and green spaces, open up new places to explore and acts as the leading voice on walking matters near you. We also work with and support our local groups. We can help you to get outside, make new friends and discover how walking boosts your health and happiness.

In North Wales there are 10 RA Groups. These Groups offer a varied programme of over 600 guided walks per year. These are led by Ramblers Association volunteer members. We have walks to suit all tastes. New or potential members are welcome on all our walks. It is often advisable to contact the leader of a walk beforehand for details of the walk. For more information go to the ‘Our Groups’ page.

The Area is responsible for protecting the footpaths in North Wales. We are actively working to ensure that the area has a good quality network of footpaths. To become involved in this work go to the ‘Contacts’ page.

We are proud of our achievements in protecting and improving the rights of way in North Wales. We are committed to ensuring that the paths are open and continually improved.

  • We report problems and follow them up
  • We discuss possible diversions with landowners, councils and other interested parties
  • Our volunteers do practical work to improve the network
  • We propose improvements to paths and open spaces and help find funds to implement them
  • We object to any proposal that we believe are detrimental to the public, the beauty of the countryside or the environment
  • We have regular meetings with the County Councils to ensure that work is carried out and that footpath budgets are protected
